From Introvert  to Award Winning Public Speaker Mentor Coach Author For many years I avoided public speaking – I was most certainly an introvert.  I had great jobs and opportunities, however I avoided speaking and networking. 3 events changed my life and started me on my business journey. I found a mentor who pushed, prodded and pulled me into speaking and I finally realised how much I enjoyed speaking and training.  So much so that with my business partner we started the business Trischel and for many years we conducted training workshops privately and with corporate organisations. The 2nd event was seeing Steven Bradbury win his gold medal in the winter Olympics. Watching his interviews I realised the power of being prepared, being prepared to grab opportunities effectively when they came along.  This has become a mantra and a driving force for my business.  My mission is to help my clients, specifically published and soon to be published authors, and introverts to realise that public speaking is the key to success.  Public speaking skills and techniques  will give them the confidence to be ready to grab opportunities when they come. The 3rd event was in 2007 when we lost our son Craig to suicide.  I had to give the eulogy at his funeral and there were no second chances with this – it had to be done right and done then.  It was not until many weeks later when I was processing everything that I realised that the it was the confidence from my public speaking skills that allowed me to do that eulogy and do due testament to...

My Story – Hattgriff Handmade, Gabrielle Hatty

Hello. My name is Gabrielle Hatty and I love to sew! I have recently launched my new business – Hattgriff Handmade. It has been an interested journey coming to this time in my life, and it’s truly something I had never expected! My obsession with sewing began with the therapeutic need to create something beautiful following my magnificent Dad's sudden passing. A friend suggested I make a memory quilt using fabric from my Dad’s shirts. It wasn’t easy, in reality it took me over a week to recover from having to cut up the first shirt but in the end I was determined. Not only did I finish one quilt, I managed to complete six. One for each of my sisters, my Mother and my two sons. The fact that my boys now sleep under warm, delightfully heavy quilts that feature part of their Grandfather’s life, warms my heart. From there I began sewing each and every day. Around the births and breastfeeding of my three young children, as my Husband and I completed our handmade house in the Yarra Valley. Over time it has evolved, I love to sew handmade gifts for birthdays, Christmas and when new babies arrive. I have learned to sew clothing for my children and I love the fact that there is a new challenge and so many things I’ve never sewn before! I’ve discovered hand pieced hexies and my next quilt will feature these new and intricate shapes. It’s not fashionable but I love to hand sew whilst watching my children at play. My two beautiful boys welcomed a lovely little sister nearly a year...

Andrea Pelikan of Priceless Exchange Demi-Pair Agency

[frame align="center"][/frame] A Typical Day of a Mum In Business Tell us about your business Priceless Exchange is a demi-pair and au-pair agency . we place international language students with English speaking families to improve their enlish. In exchange for full board, demi-pairs help the families around the house with housework and childcare for 20 hours per week. How do you start your day? A big breakfast with my kids. As a homeschooling mum I don’t have to rush in the morning! What hours/ days do your work? I work every day from lunchtime on until very often late at night, most times 7 days a week. It is people business, so I get many phonecalls after hours! Do you have a designated area you work in your house? I have a desk in the bedroom, but like to plunk my laptop in the living room with the tv going in the background at night! Do you have a routine you stick to for work? Yes, I check my emails in the morning on the phone! Then do important emails during the kids lunch break; then the rest in the evening.  I pick up the demi-pairs from the airport as well and place them with their families, so depending on when the families are home and the flight schedule, my work needs me to be very flexible. Do you have help with your kids/business or are you doing everything on your own? No I do have help. I have an awesome lady (Mel Groom) helping me with pick-ups if needed, I have a lady (Chelsea McLean doing my marketing...
