Some people do have some natural leadership skills but it is important to note that leadership skills are something that can be improved.

Using a questionnaire or quiz is a great way to find out if any of your team want to go into leadership.
If you have a team under you then you are a leader, whether you had originally planned to be or not.

Here are 6 tips to help you be the best that you can be so that you can more effectively lead your team.
1. Be Clear About Your Vision
You need to be clear about your vision.
If you don’t know what it is that you stand for and what it is that you are trying to achieve, you’ll appear flaky.
This is not a great way for you to be able to inspire your team.
2. Be Articulate
A great way for you to be clear about your vision is through improving your Communications skills.
If you cannot articulate your vision positively how do you expect your team to understand you.
An articulate leader has the benefit that they can effectively communicate messages.
3. Be A Role Model for Your Team
The old saying of “do what I say, not what I do” does not inspire your team and is not a maxim that you should live by.
You cannot expect team members to do things that you would not comfortably or consistently do yourself.
Make sure you role model all the behaviours you expect and hope for from your team.
4. Play to Your Strengths
A good team leader effectively uses their time by playing to their strengths.
If numbers is your thing concentrate on numbers.
If motivation is your thing, inspire your team members.
Don’t do what you aren’t good at or what you don’t enjoy - especially if it can be automated or outsourced.
5. Be Passionate
Passion shines through.
You need to be passionate about what you are doing if you want others to be passionate about your team’s goals.
Yes, obviously we all sometimes have bad days, but if 99 times out of 100 you are not jumping out of bed living your vision.
Or leaving a legacy on the world that you are proud of, then you won’t be a great leader as your team will see your inauthenticity.
6. Be Positive
Positivity is key.
You need to be positive.
If someone in your team makes a mistake don’t be overly critical.
Yes, sit down with your team member and go through their mistake and make sure they learn from it but emphasise the positive that a learning experience provides.
Leadership is not something that comes naturally to everybody.
Leadership skills are something that can be improved.
